Hi vandermolen!

Check out the "Havergal Brian off-air"-thread under New recordings. The forthcoming Dutton release is mentioned together with two upcoming releases of his music from Toccata Classics. Plus a whole lot of interesting stuff!

For those of you who may not yet have spotted them, the long awaited new releases from Dutton can now be found (and ordered!) on their website. 7 new CDs in total: Jacob, Brian, Carwithen, Arnell, Delius, Dodgson and a CD of cello works by Bowen, Brian et al.. They're not yet visible on the home page, but do a search for CD numbers 7258, 7263-68 and you should see them all. What a feast!

Mark Thomas

Thanks Jeremy - I'll head on over....

Many thanks, Albion, for your efforts in providing all the links. Cor blimey, treats galore - every one of them!

Pengelli

This IS exciting,but oh dear,another pre-order!

Pengelli

Ok,I've pre-ordered the one at the top of the list. The old Leicestershire schools symphony orchestra performance was pretty good & a bit special,in it's own way,but this should be 'something else'. Indeed.a very interesting selection. I'd order more, but what with Humperdinck's 'Dornroschen',(Andrew Clements was wrong,it's lovely!),the new Chandos D'indy cd,some Stenhammer, the Whitlock 'Organ Sonata' from Hyperion & some cd's of Barbirolli conducting Elgar & V-W,I think I've done for this months quota.

Oh well, who needs to eat, pay the mortgage or heat the house anyway!

Just contemplating the CPO box of Atterberg symphonies (http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/CPO/7771182) and aiming to be in the workhouse by Christmas.  :'(

Pengelli

Oh not a link! I have fought long & hard not to buy this cd set,but the more I read about Kurt Atterberg, the more I want it & I know I'll give in,eventually.  It was the Presto offer that finally got me buying the Humperdinck. If you like Humpy's spin on Wagner it's a strange hybrid, but very well sung, full of good tunes, lovely transparent orchestration & I have enjoyed every minute of it,so thank you temptation & cpo,of course. (More Humperdinck please!) I personally think there should be an organisation, like Alcoholics Anonymous, for people addicted to cd buying. We could all stand up & take our  turn in telling our fellow members how we resisted the latest release from Toccata or Dutton! (How about cd buyers anonymous?)
But what if they like Abba or the other Englebert Humperdinck?!!

NB: The Rufinatscha release, at the end of the month, is going to be a problem.

PS: Go for it...you know you want it!

albion

I certainly do - even if it gets unwrapped and then sits on a shelf for months awaiting attention whilst I wade through the mountain of other listening!  ;)

M. Henriksen

I just have to praise Dutton for releasing another bunch of very interesting recordings. What a great job they are doing for the promotion of British repertoire! What if all countries had such enterprising labels!?

According to the William Alwyn page over at musicweb -

Due to be recorded (for the Dutton Epoch label) in January 2011 is the Prelude and Derrybeg Fair Music from Alwyn's first opera The Fairy Fiddler. This will be with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra conducted by Martin Yates. The coupling will be two other 20th century British Symphonies.

Does anybody have information as to which symphonies these might be?  ???
