Centrediscs has released the Piano Sonatas of a composer who has not appeared on these message boards before, apparently: Sophie-Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatte (1899-1974).

The Six Piano Sonatas are performed with dazzling virtuosity by Marc-Andre Hamelin. This is a re-release of an Altarus album from 1991.

I think I heard some of that CD at the library some years back (the university library has that and a few other CDs of her music). Good stuff in my opinion.  I think she was a student of Max Trapp?

She wrote a lot, three piano concertos, at least two symphonies, bassoon cto, vn cto, overtures, lots and lots of chamber music besides the sonatas, was a wunderkind, etc. The music is all very enjoyable, sometimes seems a bit awkward, but overall very pleasant to hear.
