All I can say is that these forthcoming releases make up a mere fraction of what is planned...

Dundonnell

Of course...I understand that :)

I have often thought that Burkhard Schmilgun has the best job in music ;D ;D

Gareth Vaughan

This is, indeed, a wonderful list - I am, however, concerned at the absence of any mention of the Jadassohn symphonies which were listed as upcoming in one of the previous catalogues but seem to have disappeared altogether now. Do you know anything, Alan?

Alan Howe

Only that they will definitely be released...

Gareth Vaughan

Thank you. Patience is a virtue!

An over-rated virtue in my opinion ;D

(but that's just because I don't possess very much of it ;D)

With cpo it's essential. However, when you look at what they've released over the years...

Peter1953

IMO cpo is a truly fantastic label and we owe people like Burkhard Schmilgun many thanks. Cpo dares to release (very) unsung classical music. I wonder how many of those CD's will be sold over the years. A few hundreds each? Is this profitable for cpo? Well, cpo isn't certainly Santa Claus and must make some profit, maybe with other businesses as well. Never mind, we must be very grateful.
I'm most excited by the forthcoming release of another Röntgen CD with symphonies Nos. 5 (1926), 6 (1928) and 19 (1931), Raff's String Quartets 2 & 3 and Van Gilse's Symphonies 3 & 4. For those members who are not familiar yet with Schumann's Preis-Symphony, this is a most wonderful, powerful youth work, full of memorable tunes (especially in the first 3 movements). Something to look forward to!

Dundonnell

I am pleased to see that CPO will be issuing some more Hausegger, including the Symphonic Poem "Barbarossa". The "Natursymphonie" I found a very impressive work :)

Disappointed though that there is still no completion of their Reznicek symphonic cycle-Nos. 3 and 4 are still outstanding. Admittedly, these two can be obtained on an old Koch cd.

I note too that they are releasing the Irgens-Jensen Symphony. This will make the third version of the work to make it to cd-the Naxos version came out recently. This seems a case where the delays in issuing past recordings means that very occasionally CPO has been caught up with by other companies.

However, let not my comparative disappointment cloud my ongoing vast admiration for one of the most enterprising companies we have, if not the most enterprising company :) :)

Myself I am glad that Tansman's pieces for piano and orchestra will be available. I do have his Concert Piece and Concertino but not on commercial CD. Also his two piano concertos are very interesting. I believe that starting a new thread of Tansman could be desirable

I too often find the cpo catalogue difficult to find online. However, for a company CHARGE for a piece of publicity material like this is, I think, completely wrong.

Alan Howe

Well, you get a free CD with it...

Peter1953

Indeed. One filled with Horn Concertos by Rosetti and these are worth listening once in a while. Together €2.99 only and that's not bad.

Well, I suppose that softens the blow a little. I quite like Rosetti....
