Yes, I've noticed that too.   We listen and on the first hearings, don't always pick out anything memorable.  After all, we can hum along all the way thru the Beethoven 5th.   But how many dozen times have we heard the 5th.....

I am beginning to realise that I don't sometimes listen enough to new works of unsung composers before making an evaluation! Some works clearly need to be listened to at least several times before one can really appreciate the true worth of a piece!

How true! How true! And I wonder how often hard-pressed music critics commit this particular error. Imagine the negative effect of a prematurely arrived-at assessment of an unsung piece...
