New Rubinstein Recordings from Joseph Banowetz

Joseph Banowetz has recorded two new Rubinstein discs for Naxos.  One has been released, the other will be later this month.

One contains the wonderful Theme and Variations, Op. 88 (already recorded by Leslie Howard for Hyperion), coupled with the Akrostichon, Op. 114:

Hi All,
I already have the disc with the Souvenir de Dresden on it.  I've not yet listened to it (been stupidly busy for the last 2 weeks) but will venture an opinion when I have done so!

Both sets of recordings have been available for some time as downloads  from Naxos offshoot classicsonline.com. I'm a sucker for Rubinstein's piano music and these are delicious offerings. The huge Theme & Variations (over 40 minutes long IIRC) is a really satisfying tour de force (and I prefer it here to Howard's rather drier interpretation). Thoroughly recommendable if you like high romantic piano music.
