Arrangements seem to be all the rage at the moment. How about this one of Franck's Piano Quintet as a 'Symphony for Piano and Orchestra' (last three tracks)...?

It all sounds v. interesting - if a little self-indulgent. The excerpts from Franz Strauss' Horn concerti sound marvellous, however, and I think this is a disk I may have to buy.

The Franck is quite wonderful in the new orchestration. The overall impression is of a very advanced piece of music for 1878-9 - a Symphony for Piano and Orchestra very much influenced by Tristan, but unmistakably by Franck. Like him or loathe him, the music of his final decade or so was extremely original. I do recommend this quirkily programmed CD!

I agree with Alan, the Franck Piano Quintet is quite startling in orchestral garb. The second, previously unrecorded, Franz Strauss Horn Concerto is an absolute delight, too.
