Well, there exists one (and only one) thread in 'Composer Reference' for Ropartz, so folks would look there - I've seen people get hounded for creating 'duplicate' posts. One option is to change the title (and have one thread per composer). This makes sense, as we wouldn't want multiple threads for each composer per each instrument combination/voices. Just my $0.02.

Very likely. But the fact remains that partial catalogues are only of partial value - and while the persistent seeker after other related info may well find what he/she is looking for, it is equally possible that he/she won't.

The general point is this: while for some people these catalogues are obviously of interest, too often for me they omit what I am interested in, e.g. chamber music. Frankly, I find myself consulting other sources far more often. However, chacun à son goût...

I agree with you - I love chamber music as well, much more intimate, and often the vehicle for a composer's most revelatory (and revolutionary) thoughts (i.e., Beethoven's late quartets). Which is why (when I can) I have been adding the remaining works to the 'orchestral' selections here. I do urge that we have a single thread per composer in the reference series. A simple renaming could do it.

I have renamed the thread to take account of the fact that the thread now also contains Balapoel's marvellously comprehensive listings of all the other music composed by Ropartz. Many thanks to Balapoel for adding this information

I very much take the point that it would be helpful to make clear to those seeking information about a composer's non-orchestral music that such information can be found within the thread.

I am therefore more than happy to return to all of those threads within which such music has been listed to ensure that the thread title accurately reflects the content and to change that title as and when appropriate

I have just spent two full days struggling my way through a large number of sources in French in an attempt to make sense of the eccentric chronology of the music of Florent Schmitt.

I was about to post the fruits of that research.

I am however deeply saddened by Alan's comments. I had hoped that these catalogues would be proving of value and of use to at least those members who had an interest. A large number of messages of thanks and of encouragement from other members had indicated that this was the case.

I have spent almost all of every day for the past four months in compiling the lists. I always made it quite clear that the catalogues were "partial", ie limited to the music in which I have a particular interest. The alternative would have been to have spent my time on other pursuits.

I could not hope to satisfy everyone for the simple reason that I have no more time at my disposal.

The catalogues were intended however to be the start of a process. Better-I thought-to have them here and online for others to use as they might wish than to sit on my system at home. If others were able, as Balapoel (bless him ) has been to add lists of the other music then I indicated, several times, that this would be fantastic.

It's not personal, and quite honestly, it's sad that you find my comments sad. It's simply a reflection of the fact that my interests are wider than yours. Therefore, I have to be honest - I don't find the lists that reflect your interests of much value to me. I acknowledge the amount of work you have done in compiling lists that interest you - and I am glad that others are appreciative - but for catalogues of works to be of use to everyone, they need to be comprehensive, as any other work of reference would acknowledge.

I think that is the best solution, Dundonnell (i.e., renaming threads), and I am happy to add to the lists where I can - and I appreciate your efforts in going through the lists you have - I know the time it takes. I haven't gone through to see what's available on CD, only what I have (in a few cases, I've colored available pieces blue, to my limited knowledge).  Keep up the good work, Dundonnell. I have quite a few of the one's you've posted recently, but I've been in the field for the last 5 weeks and haven't had a chance to add them.
