Violinist Erich Gruenberg, whose recorded repertoire included works old, Romantic (including a 1990s recording of Bax for Chandos!), newish and quite new, and who played in a piano trio with Edmund Rubbra around WW2, died a few days ago.

A wonderful musician, and a stalwart of the musical scene in my younger days. I am so pleased he made it to 95.

Yes, I first came across him as leader of the LSO. A great musician.
