Julian Seymour Clifford  Born 28.9.1877, Bayswater, London  Died 27.12.1921 St.Leonards-on-Sea, England

The son of Thomas Clifford, Julian was initially educated at Tonbridge and Ardingly schools. Later his musical training was at The Leipzig Conservatory.  For a time he was also a pupil of Josef Sliwinski and Walter Parrott. Clifford was a conductor, pianist  and composer.  Among the orchestras he conducted were The Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, The Yorkshire Permanent Orchestra in Leeds and The Harrogate Spar Orchestra from 1906. This orchestra spent its winters in Hastings, Sussex.

On 17.12.1902, he married The Hon. Alice Margaret Henniker-Major.  He died while residing at 5 West Crescent, St Leonards, East Sussex.  He is buried in Hastings.

They had a son, Julian Major Clifford  1903-1966 who composed some light music.
There was also a daughter Margaret Stella Clifford  1912-
