Did anyone notice or knew of these new Bortkiewicz releases by Somero? I only own No.3, and it's as good as we should expect, being that commercially is the only one containing the Little Wanderer pieces, apart from the Nyíregyházi LP of a while ago.

I apologize for the short digression. I seem to remember that the Nyiregyhazy Lp contained some of the poorest piano playing ever put to disc (less so-if I remember well- a double Lisztian Lp recorded slightly earlier). And the old aged pianist - in the rather sensationalistic booklet- was reported to have been "rediscovered" in full poverty and misery after decades of neglect and obscurity (after a very promising early career, interrupted by a sue promoted by the pianist against his agent).

That's OK. I didn't say it was the Authoritative version of the Suite. It was, however the first time anybody played and recorded something of Bortkiewicz. Too bad that in "these times" nobody's leading the way but Somero and Trapman, and their recordings are often hard to come by if you don't live in Europe. As for the quality of Nyíregyházi's playing... ah, let's not begin.

I thought the first music of Bortkiewicz recorded was the double LP of Ulla Graf's on Genesis - might be wrong. I wish they'd re-issue this. I remember seeing it in Harold Moore's records when I was much-much younger (and before my current obsession with rare piano) and thinkig it wasn't worth chancing my hard earned pennies on!!

I have found Robert Commagère to be very approachable and accommodating. Why not email him at Genesis and suggest a reissue? He has remastered and issued on CD quite a few of his wonderful original LPs.

Just an aside - I have been thinking of writing to Robert Commagere to suggest he reissue the Raff PC. It was a fine performance. The Dreyschock Concert Piece also deserves to be heard again.

I still think Klaas Trapman's playing of Bortkiewicz is wonderful. See http://www.nederlandsmuziekinstituut.nl/nl/winkel
The 3 double CD's are 15 euros each.  However, I have no idea whether it's difficult to order (Bestel = Order) these discs if you live outside the Netherlands.

Spooky! I did that only this morning. But another voice wouldn't go amiss.

This is weird, guys.  I think it was just last week I emailed him suggesting he re-release the Raff on CD, coupled with Brüll PC 2.  He could probably fit the Dreyschock on there, too.

The NMI is a small organisation, but they will ship abroad and accept credit card payment. Shipping fees are not excessive, in my experience (but still high).
