Spohr - Complete Piano Trios

What a bargain. The cpo 3 CD box featuring the 5 Piano Trios for EUR 7.99 only. Very attractive, joyous and melodious chamber music which can only please the listener, superbly played by the Beethoven Trio Ravensburg. For a composer whose main instrument wasn't the piano the writing for this instrument is remarkable fresh and sparkling.
It's an older recording (1994, released 1995) but for some reason I found it only recently. Recommended for those who enjoy this genre.

I think cpo, Naxos and Orfeo released complete sets of the piano trios around the same time (not going to complain... and the Naxos set included the 2nd, D minor piano quintet into the bargain) - some very good music there from what I've heard, though I haven't heard all five of the works or recordings from all three sets. I like Spohr's chamber music very much on the whole, fwiw. (The Munich - Orfeo - recording of the scherzo of the first trio will be on Belgian/Klara radio twice tomorrow I see. )
