Horton Claridge Allison   Born 25 July 1846 Marylebone, London - Died  17.10.1926 Manchester

He was the son of a language teacher.  In 1856 he entered The Royal Academy Of Music, London and received instruction from W.H.Holmes, G.F. Macfarren and Plaidy.  He later studied in Leipzig under E.F.Richter, Reinecke, Hauptmann and Moscheles (1862-1865) He gained his music doctorate from Durham University  in 1877.  He played at Gewandhaus Concerts during his stay there.  Much of his career was spent as a concert pianist and board examiner. He married his wife Sara in 1869 at St.Mary's Bryanson Square, London.  There were three children.*  At the time of his death his estate was £9,136.  He is buried in the Southern Cemetery Manchester.  Grave 765

St. Pancras Library-via-Worldcat lists an organ sonata ("Broadhouse(J.) English Organ Music, etc. No. 2.") (I am thinking this means in their collection or in their collection at the time of cataloguing if perhaps since lost (as usual with catalogs), not "once existed").
