Loglan may be a better choice than Esperanto for that distinction, I'm guessing... (and quite a bit has been written in Esperanto, I see.)

Returning to the OP, I think that without a knowledge of less well-known music, one has a poorer appreciation of the music of the past. Those who listen only to concert standards can't know, for instance, what other composers were part of the musical milieu in which Beethoven worked. Without being able to compare Beethoven's music to that of his contemporaries one has, I think, a lesser appreciation of what he did.
