Are there tempo indications for the 3rd movement anywhere?

Alan Howe

Probably. Perhaps you'd oblige us and do some research, Jim?

Suggest you enquire of the publishers: PWM (Poland) - http://www.pwm.com.pl  I have found them helpful in the past, if you ask nicely!!!

JimL

Thanks!  I've had some good luck with that recently... :)

jerfilm

thanks so much for the upload.   Lovely stuff.

I shall endeavor to make my inquiry some time this weekend.  But if they answer me in Polish, I'm'a' keeeeeeeel yew!  ;D

Alan Howe

I doubt whether the tempo indication will be in Polish, Jim!  ;)

BTW this is so much more enjoyable than Rubinstein 4 of the same name. And it appears definitely to date from 1860:

Yes, another very fine work by a totally UC and, I agree, a more imposing symphony than the Rubinstein. Thank you for the upload. :)

Peter1953

Most certainly an impressive symphony and I'm very grateful to Mark for the upload. Again a hidden Polish gem. But no, by no means better than Rubinstein's Fourth. And that's my personal opinion, nothing more.

Alan Howe

Not better that Rubinstein 4, Peter; just more enjoyable.

Mark Thomas

Can I make an appeal, with all due respect to everyone, for a moritorium on mention of Rubinstein's Fourth? I'm thoroughly bored with it.

Peter1953

I've listened to this symphony a few times. Absolutely enjoyable, but I wonder why it is called 'Dramatic'. I cannot recognize a dramatic moment at all. It is full of life and breaths a positive mood. I think Johann Strauss Junior would have loved it and called it promptly the Waltzer Symphony.

petershott@btinternet.com

Ah oops, 'moratorium' actually. And are you, Mark, "thoroughly bored" by Rubinstein 4 or by the frequent mention of it? Absolutely no need to answer that question!

But I do agree with you. It has almost got to the stage where fellow scribblers, rather than being unable to see the wood for the trees, cannot think of a symphony without thinking Rubinstein. It has somehow prejudiced me so much against Rubinstein 4 that I doubt if I will ever listen to it again - and whether or not that is my loss is something I shall never discover!

Peter1953

 ???

But Peter, what do you think of the Brzowski, the subject of this thread?
