William Henry Holmes   Born 8 January 1812 Sudbury, Derbyshire - Died 23 April 1885 London
He was initially taught music by his father.  From 1822 he went to The Royal Academy of Music in London and studied under Potter.  He subsequently be came a professor of piano there.  Among his pupils were W Sterndale Bennett, W Macfarren, Oliver King and Horton Allison.  He made his debut as a concert pianist in London in 1851.

Not to be confused with Henry Holmes  1839 - 1905
