To my ears, the first movement sounds a bit like a mix between Johan Svendsen and Carl Nielsen.

Unfortunately, Beckman didn't write much music. I think his whole output for orchestra consists of this symphony, a symphonic poem, a piece for string orchestra and some incidential music.

His violin sonata in A minor Op1 was issued on a Caprice LP - but as far as I am aware, this was never reissued on CD unfortunately. Is is some time since I listened to this so will have to revisit it when I can access my LP collection! My recollections of the work are rather vague, but it did seem to impress at the time!
