Learmont Drysdale (1866-1909)

Learmont Drysdale's music is now completely unknown, but warm appreciations by his contemporaries Henry Wood and Elgar suggest that it would be well worth exhuming. Fortunately, his manuscripts are held by the University of Glasgow.

1895 - White Heather, polka de salon for orchestra
1892-96 - The Plague, incidental music
1897 - The Oracle, comic opera
1898 - The Red Spider, romantic light opera
1901 - The Proud Damozel, choral ballad
1902 - Flora Macdonald, opera (unfinished)
           The Girl from London, comic opera (unfinished)
           In Office Hours, operetta
1904 - A Border Romance, orchestral poem
1901-05 - Tamlane, cantata
1905 - Hippolytus, incidental music
1907 - The Scottish Tribute to France, cantata
1907-08 - Inaugural Ode for the Franco-British Exhibition, London, 1908, for chorus and orchestra
1909 - Fionn and Tera, opera (orchestration completed by David Steven)
