For fans of the high-romantic song repertoire I can thoroughly recommend the CD of songs by Mihalovich on Hungaroton...

...which seems to be the only recording of music by this fascinating composer on the market. There's a lot of Wagner in these predominantly short songs (the longest is 3:33), but they are superbly performed by the two full-throated operatic singers featured on the CD. If ever some more of his music comes along, I shall be snapping it up!

In fact, most of these songs are mini operatic scenes, such is the strenuous nature of the writing, especially for the tenor. I haven't enjoyed myself so much in this sort of repertoire for ages!

My mention of Mihalovich elsewhere has prompted me to take this CD down off the shelf again. These songs are definitely of the sock-it-to-me variety! Lieder for people who don't like Lieder...
