...actually a reissue on 2 CDs from Pan Classics, but a very welcome one, containing a very fine performance of the Symphony in particular:

How does the symphony compare with the Naxos 8.572805 from 2013?
Tom :)

In my view it's the best performance around. The conductor takes a straighter view of the score and I think that works best in a piece which can seem over-inflated.

sounds like I need to replace it. thanks Alan

I hope someone records the Piano Concerto in G minor (1874).

PAN CLASSIC issued music by D'Albert on 4 CDs, all between 1993 and 1997:
1) Overture "Improvisator" and 2 Piano Concertos
2) Cello Concerto and Symphony
3) Piano Sonata and two sets of piano pieces op. 5 and op. 16
4) 2 String Quartets
Good to see them reissued!
I agree with Alan on the Symphony :-)
Pianist Karl-Andreas Kolly is simply great.

It would need a bit of work. The autograph MS in the Saxon State Library is described as "almost complete", whatever that means. I agree it would be interesting to hear it.

Written at the age of 10? I'd like to think it would be of interest...

Gareth Vaughan

Well he was supposed to be a precocious youngster. Look at the stuff Korngold turned out at the same age. However, I'm not holding my breath for a forgotten masterpiece!

It just dawned on me that I have a Vox recording on LP of the piano works. I don't know where it is but it's likely in my deep cavern of a closet.
Tom :)
