Hermann Gustav Goetz  Born 17 December 1840  Died 3 December 1876 Konigsberg  died Hottingen nr. Zurich
His initial music studies were at Konigsberg University. Subsequently studying at The Stern Conservatory, Berlin with Hans von Bulow and Hugo Ulrich.  From 1867 he spent the next three years as an organist in Winterthur, Switzerland. After 1870 he devoted himself entirely to composing. He married in 1868 ¹

There is also an early symphony in E minor that is, apparently, lost.  Who lost it I cannot say.

I don't know the dates, but off the top of my head I believe he completed two operas, Francesca da Rimini and The Taming of the Shrew.

My first encounter with Goetz - as it perhaps was for many people - was an LP on which his piano concerto was coupled with the concerto by Bronsart von Schellendorf, played by Michael Ponti. It is heartening to see that so much of his music, supposedly all his orchestral and chamber works, has since become available on CD.
