In the Hawkins archive, London there is a piano quintet in D. Does anyone know anything about this composer or when the quintet was written?

Possibly Dorothy Ehrhardt (1894-1971), a pupil of Bantock, in which case the quintet was published in 1917 according to Worldcat.  This came up (and my information is mostly from) here http://imslp.org/wiki/User_talk:Carolus#D._Ehrhardt (and the decision, I suppose, was that because of the recent date of death - post-1959 - that the work could not be uploaded to IMSLP.)

Thank you for the info.  It seems strange that so many printed scores have no date on them about when the music was written.
