Ahh, the beloved Portsmouth Sinfonia. I remember them well.

The English version of the name 'Zarathustra' is 'Zoroaster' (as in the Zoroastrians of India).

You might just have started something here ....

With apologies to Richard Strauss: YouTube.

I don't think that is Richard Strauss.

Probably Sorabji.

Much closer to the former than the latter, notwithstanding the great distance; I just wonder whether the Strauss Estate will be suing / ghave already sued for royalties...

Alan Howe

How far ahead of his time Stauss was. I'm sure I detected some Stockhausen in the mix...

Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly, then, Alan.

Maybe Richard Sorabji, the historian/philosopher (perhaps he is an amateur composer as well? Would I know?) (no, I am not making him up - actually, he's taught near where I'm at.)

Not at all! Alistair knows already that he is perfectly capable of making his own Thalburgers...

I have an entire album of the magic that is Portsmouth Sinfonia. I put it on when it's time for the guests to go home. Never fails.

Unfortunately, with most of my guests I can achieve the same effect with the Vienna or Berlin PO, and with every composer from Mozart to Mahler... I reckon they'd be amused by Portsmouth S, though!
