It's good to have the CDs. The Symphony comes across so much better than in the copy we have had up till now with its cramped sound. It positively glows! Think of the work - first performed in Wiesbaden in 1881 - as lying somewhere between Brahms 2 (composed 1877) and Dvorak 6 (composed 1880, first performed in Prague in March 1881), with the predominant influence being Brahms.

Personally, I'm smitten!

a peripheral note: today I was on the jpc-cpo website..as you may have seen , they have a hit Chart ranking cd sales:  well,the Urspruch is resolutely n.1!
Also, I am personally delighted to see that, even the cd is not that new, the Fuchs 1&2 is still at n.3. I adore Fuchs's music and the 2nd in in my top 5 unsung symphonies.

True. Brahms seems to be a stronger influence.
