Just got a couple of CDs of chamber music by J-E Bonnal and am eager to hear :

"POEMES FRANCISCAINS"

Has anyone a copy of this broadcast?

I'm very interested too, so I'm putting this back up...

When was this written? We'd have to be convinced that the music fits here as this thread dates from around our change of remit.

Gareth Vaughan

A quick trawl around the few extracts of his music on YouTube, which include a brief extract from the "Poemes Franciscains", convince me that he does fall within our remit - just.

Alan Howe

Thanks for that, Gareth. Very helpful.

Can't tell much from dates, though, Tom...

And I didn't find his organ music all that attractive. Might have been the recordings though (or performances!).

There is one CD of music by Bonnal (string trio, 1934; legend for violin and piano, 1910; Sur le lac triste (1916) : berceuse pour violon et piano; Improvisation, Op.23 (1907) pour violon et piano; Petit poême, Op.20 (1909) pour violon, alto et piano; and Bosphore (1937) : pièce pour violoncelle et piano) available over NML as of this time (NML's available labels and contents-within-labels are dynamic ;) ), will hear about having a listen to it and seeing what I think too, thanks what for the reminder. I thought I'd heard some of his music (I'd seen his name in reviews...) but what I'd actually -heard- was a work by Bonnet, different fellow of course, on a disc on Delos.
