Glazunov Symphony 6

When I hear this work I'm inclined to think that the first movement is Glazunov's finest symphonic utterance.

I enjoyed all of Butt`s Glazunov. He certainly had a great orchestra to work with and I was sorry he never did them all. Does he still work anywhere? Since the demise of ASV he kind of vanished.

He died August 28 2014 according to this and I presume its sources.

I completely agree with Alan on his assessment that the 1st movement is one of Glazunov's finest and most inspired. Symphonies 4, 5 & 6 are his best of the lot.

Before he died Butt actually recorded quite a lot for Nimbus - Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann and Tchaikovsky (4-6) symphonies, for example.

I forgot to mention his Raff Symphony No. 3 is imho unsurpassed.

Please correct me if I am wrong but I was not aware that Yondani Butt had recorded Raff's 3rd symphony. The 5th, yes.
