Langgaard Symphonies 2 & 6/Oramo on Dacapo

DaCapo is issuing in September the 2nd recording (conducted by Oramo rather than Dausgaard) of 2 symphonies by Rued Langgaard (his symphonies nos. 2 (1912-4, revised 1933) and 6. (The Naxos-distributed September-2018-upcoming releases page is actually interesting this month, and contains amongst other things a CD with a noteworthy imho, though slightly post-Shostakovich (1976-composed), world premiere (performance? and) recording...) and also works by Braga Santos, etc. September looks like it may be a good month.

The magnificent Dacapo box with Langgaard's complete Symphonies conducted by Thomas Dausgaard (issued in 2008) is a milestone! I bought this when it was freshly published:

Sadly I still haven't found the money  to replace my Ilya Stupel Langgaard series from the 1990s with that box hadrianus!, and then...... the Wiener and DaCapo come with another release. Probably a one off, or not?

Definitely a one-off, I think. Similar to his one-off CD of Nørgård Symphonies 1 & 8, also with the VPO.

no.2 was performed (original version) by Oramo (maybe this means it's also the 1914 version on the CD, despite what I said , though here it's the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic - though the program also has Gade's Jalousie, as with the CD... ) in a concert with works by Sibelius late last year... nothing there (anyway) about Oramo taking on the other symphonies, though. (The 6th may have been performed and perhaps recorded in May, see https://www.worldconcerthall.com/en/schedule/sibelius_langgaard_and_elgar_with_gabetta_from_vienna/41406/.)

Ah never mind, that was mistaken. Correction:
symphony no.2 was performed 22 April 2017 by the Vienna Philharmonic and symphony no.6 was performed 15 April 2018. Tracks 11 (a movement from symphony 14) and 12 (the Jacob Gade work) not sure, should say in the notes if not even on the liner. Maybe the Gade is a reissue of their earlier (2018-issue, 24 April 2017-recorded Vienna Philharmonic) recording on DaCapo 8.226609...

Having listened to it a couple of times, I'm extremely pleased with it.  The Langgaard parts, anyway.  As a rule, I try not to criticize filler choices, but I find Gade's Tango Jalousie to be totally out of place here.  The notes on the back even point out that it "has become the absolutely most frequently played piece of Danish music for almost a century."  Well, then, why on Earth would they bother to include it here, of all places?  More Langgaard would have made far more sense to me.  Knowing how relatively infrequent Langgaard orchestral recordings are and how he felt about the rest of the Danish music establishment, it seems like a total slap in his face.  Baffling pointlessness...

It's a very fine CD nevertheless. What a joy it is to hear Langgaard played by the great VPO.

I really appreciate other orchestras like the Wiener Philharmoniker perform this exciting music. This release unveils some extra details on these Langgaard's symphonies, above all on the 6th. I'm very satisfied with it. However, the Järvi's rendition (Chandos recording) remains my favorite, mainly because of that spacious and epic ending, which is thoroughly thrilling and one of my favorites in the symphonic literature. I love it!!
