I guess it's on the outer limits of this forum, but Hilary Hahn's new recording of Jennifer Higdon's Pulitzer Prize-winning VC from 2008 (coupled on DG with a thoughtful and beautifully-played version of the Tchaikovsky VC) is well worth trying by adventurous souls seeking good modern serious music which maintains clear links with the past. My guess is that anyone who likes the Barber or Walton VCs will get on with the new Higdon concerto, even if it the passage of an extra 70 years has brought with it added 'spice and spike', so to speak.
