Mariss Jansons has died - at only 76. At his best, a great conductor.

Yes, I suppose he was - people I know who have been to some of his concerts were thrilled. Kick myself for never taking a trip to Pittsburgh while he was there. I have a couple of his live recordings, but he mostly recorded standard repertoire and some of it more than once. Maybe he explored some other music in concerts. I don't know. He was sure young - for a conductor that is. Hope BRSO can find someone of his caliber soon.

I -think- some of mid-20th century unsung music (Ivanovs?) may have been under his baton,  - a search on our site shows T Khrennikov sym 3 in C eg.
