You're right Eric, it was composed then and apparently published by Breitkopf in 1901 per IMSLP. I think I got that 1910 date from reading Altmann's Handbuch. His dates are not always reliable...

When I wrote that I was not suggesting Kelly heard the Reinecke Trio, the converse is true as well. Who knows...if it was published in 1901, maybe he heard it while he was in Frankfurt at the Hochschule. I don't think he would have played it though since as far as I know, he was a pianist and not a string player...

To my untutored ear the excerpts suggest the String Trio that Borodin would have written later in life, had he put aside his test tubes!  ;D
