Vieuxtemps has been batted about on this forum over the years, with fair arguments made that he tends toward the showy and virtuosic rather than more serious music-making. In any case, it can surely be enjoyable listening if one is in the mood for style over substance perhaps, and there's more on the way from Naxos.  Coming June 12 according to Amazon UK & USA, don't see it quite yet at Presto.

Fantasie op. 21 - "Souvenir de Russie"
Old England for Violin & Orch, op. 42
Duo Brillant for Violin, Cello & Orch, op. 39
Andante & Rondo, op. 29
Variations on a Theme of Bellini's Il Pirata, op. 6
Hommage a Paganini, op. 9

The title "Old England" makes me really curious.

I for one am quite the fan of 'Souvenir d'Amerique'.

The title "Old England" makes me really curious.

A little more digging at Wikipedia reveals "Old England, Caprice on 16th- and 17th-Century English Airs", dated 1865.

Featuring that well-known band, the Qatar Philharmonic! Mind you, they're probably very good...

Some really interesting and unsung pieces here. I'm really surprised you guys have not given it more attention. Its an absolute delight with light beautiful crafted music. The orchestra is relatively unknown but do not let this deter you from getting this disc. What is the real selling point of this edition is the soloist.
RETO KUPPEL is highly acclaimed and he is a real champion with this genre. The performances on this disc are some of the best i have heard for a long time. This is a real sleeper of a disc. I have enjoyed it immensely.

Here are some details of the works by Bruce R. Schueneman

I am sure you will not be disappointed. I tend not to get excited over new releases but this one is a cracker. Its music that makes you smile.
