Societas Bungertiana

The recording of Bungert's violin sonata - in your archive - was performed by Rainer Kussmaul (violin), former concertmaster of Berlin Philharmonic, and Herbert Drechsel (piano).

Ah thanks. I am fairly sure I've heard recordings with Kussmaul as violinist or conductor (other members of his family are recorded - Jurgen Kussmaul I think?...) Anyhow, always glad to be able to fill in the blanks :)

Jürgen Kussmaul conducted our regional orchestra in Groningen (North Netherlands Orchestra) a few times. They did a recording of the Dopper 1st Symphony, among others; he also performed as as the soloist in the Viola Concerto by Samuel de Lange, Jr.

Looking through the score of Bungert's Torquato Tasso I recognized that the record in your archive is something different!! Well, I made some research on it. Fortunately, I could identify the work: It's the Prelude to Aurora (Op.23), Bungert's first opera.

I am wondering whether anything more by/about Bungert has emerged over the past 6+ years?

Here's the Bungert listing at YouTube:

UnsungMasterpieces

I get the impression that Bungert has written some very large-scale pieces, and for me that's always good news! It's a shame there are no commercial recordings. From the large scale works, the only full (at least, I think it is) recording I came across is the Mysterium Op. 60, which is a radio recording.
