Cui also wrote "duos" for flute, violin and piano (op.56) which I'd have personally preferred seeing as their main instrumentation is actually for 3 instruments, if not exactly for violin, cello and piano :) (and less recorded, I expect, than A l'argenteau.)

Is the Cui an original arrangement by the composer?

eschiss1

there -is- such an arrangement by the composer, uploaded to IMSLP. Whether it is the arrangement played on the Naxos CD, requires score-to-recording comparison?

chriss

Thanks, eschiss1. IMSLP is a great ressource for informations.

These have been recorded on a CD called "The Russian Flute" (Classico label), including also works by Grechaninov and Alexander Tcherepnin.

The second movement of the Cui was indeed arranged by the composer, arrangé par l'auteur:

Yes. Still, just as with a recent recording of Bach's cello suites arranged for piano (which was not in Raff's perfectly good arrangement), it might be in someone else's :)

Naxos announced Vol. 4 in the series. But this time not with music by the Mighty Handful
