Korngold's Piano Sonata No.3 in C major

Korngold's piano music is somewhat neglected and recordings are rather rare in spite of his ever increasing popularity, so I am delighted to announce the following CD to be released on June 26 on the Pentatone label, that features his 3rd piano sonata.

I wouldn't buy this, precisely because of the programme. Mind you, Sonata No.3 has a stunning slow movement.

Mr Schafer's CD (from 25 years ago!) is indeed a fine collection . I wrote the booklet for it.

However, this new performance of the 3rd sonata is a game changer IMO. It's outstanding and I hope there will be more to come from this fine pianist.

A shame, then, that the new CD only features one Korngold CD. Not for me...

True, but 'orrible Nimbus CD-Rs, no doubt.

The Martin Jones (which I also collaborated on) was not issued as a CD-R but was a well produced, beautifully packaged box set and very well recorded. Not 'orrible at all Alan.

The problem is that what was previously the case may no longer obtain, i.e. there is now no guarantee with any Nimbus release that it will not be on CD-R - as I have regularly found to my considerable annoyance.

Yeah, I had the Granados piano box set which I got sometime in the mid 2000s which was already by that point on CDRs.

I enquired about the Nimbus set and received this reply:

Oh dear. Enough said.
