The classic (1957) recording of this fabulous piece featuring Zino Francescatti and the Philadelphia Orchestra under Eugene Ormandy has just been re-released by Biddulph:

Francescatti has always been my favourite violinist. Less high-voltage than Heifetz, he had a truly scintillating sound, magnificent technique and luscious vibrato. I had the LP as a teenager 50 years ago - takes me back!

Do get hold of this marvellous example of violin-playing. It knocks all others into the proverbial cocked hat!

is it in stereo? i read it quickly, but it seems to me that the blurb on Presto talks explicitly only of the Lalo being in stereo..

After a recommendation like that, Alan, it simply has to be heard!
My only Francescatti recording is the Saint-Saens No.3, so maybe I should pay him more attention.  :)
