I thought I'd started a thread on this same disc, but it does not exist outside of my rather poor memory!.. . Anyhow, hope it's good!

Defintely not for me, but I thought I'd flag it up...

Presto's page notes that "they were written while he grieved the loss of his brother", so the "treacly" consistency is Perosi's expression of tenderness and loss. But, yes, certainly an acquired taste!

I have a batch of Perosi discs - all on the Bongiovanni label.  Perhaps not the finest renditions of his music, but nevertheless not otherwise available.  And I could imagine these being the equal of the Naxos performances.

I'm old and, I guess, also old-fashioned, but I like the sentimentality expressed in both Perosi's chamber music and, very much so, in his orchestral stuff - especially his Suites, of which a couple really evoke the feeling of Italy ("Milano", "Tortona", Torino").

Treacly?  Maybe - but I've a sweet tooth.

I think most of the posters here would enjoy Perosi - give the Piano Quintets a listen.
