2 of Eugène Walckiers' (1793-1866) (apparently late) string quintets with double bass, no.2 (published 1862) Op.94 in C minor, and no.4 (published 1864) Op.108 in A major, are also receiving first recordings, to be released 10 September on Es-dur. His music looks interesting to me anyway and I'd like to hear this :)

There's a 5 minute "album trailer" on Youtube (in German) with snippets of the music in the background:

Wow! What superb playing and beautiful music. This is a 'must buy' for me. Thank you for the notice, Eric, and Sharkkb8 for the link. ;)

Late to the parade, I've just listened to this CD and agree with the earlier praise afforded it.

I enjoy chamber music with double bass and these quintets are excellent - and truly unsung - examples of that.  The "floor" provided by the bass fiddle gives the works more body and depth.

Similar, and on the same label, are three quintets by Adolphe Blanc, already noted hereon.

Lovely stuff.

An upcoming disc contains a lot of Walckier's chamber music :)
