Finally, the first recording of Gipps' First Symphony is pending for its commercial release.
Also on this third volume of Chandos' ongoing Gipps orchestral works series are her Horn Concerto, Ambarvalia, Cringlemire Garden and Coronation Procession, the last one is afaik another first recording

Just a quick reminder, if I may: we don't yet know the idiom of Gipps' music on this release.

From our guidelines:
Please do not post about composers or compositions which clearly fall outside our definition of "romantic". Your post will not be approved. If you are in any doubt, and in any event if the music was written after 1918, please email or PM a moderator before posting.

From what I can gather from the excerpts, the symphony is in, the rest out (Cringlemire Garden being something of a borderline case).

Much as I appreciate Gipps' music (and indeed recorded the broadcast a few months ago of this very BBC performance of her Symphony No.1) I do think that some of it falls outside UC focus of interest. This fine symphony, however, is more "romantic" than just borderline, and I do recommend it to our more adventurous members.
