This German composer, conductor and critic was born Karl Georg Göhler in Zwickau on 29 June, 1874 and died in Lübeck on 4 March 1954.
He left a large number of works, including five symphonies, concertos for violin, piano and cello, also 200 songs. According to the entry in "Deutsche Biographie", due to his conscious retrospective approach  his compositions failed to gain lasting recognition because they were embedded in the Romantic tradition. His estate, including 23,000 letters (!), is held by the Ratsschulbibliothek Zwickau, according to the biographical entry on the Mahler Foundation website.
