Title: Victor Herbert works for string orchestra
Post by: Mark Thomas on Wednesday 06 July 2011, 08:11
cpo have announced the issued later this month of a CD with three works for string orchestra (http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/SESSIONID/b592729d901b118b27511f137ca19de4/cpo/detail/-/art/Victor-Herbert-1859-1924-Serenade-f%FCr-Streichorchester-op-12/hnum/7158431) by Victor Herbert: Serenade for string orchestra, Seven Pieces for  cello & string orchestra and Three Pieces for string orchestra. The Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim is conducted by Sebastian Tewinkel with the cellist Maximilian Hornung. I have no idea what these works are like, except that we can no doubt expect something mellifluously melodious and well scored. It's a must for me. There are no cover illustration or audio extracts on the link page yet.

This does indeed sound very tasty! It will be interesting to compare the performance of the Serenade with that recently released on Dutton.  :D
