Title: Raff cello concerto no.1 in 2010
Post by: eschiss1 on Saturday 16 July 2011, 13:57
There's a Youtube broadcast (not sure if this is the correct forum to link from, but it's easily found by searching raff cello on that site) of a live performance from a Minnesota State University Orchestra, October 19 2010, of the first movement (I'll check to see if there are videos of the other two movements- though perhaps only the first was performed? :( ...) of Raff's first cello concerto. I feel very happy that Raff's music is now being performed more often, that's sure...

The whole concerto must have been performed, Eric.  The first movement segues directly into the second, and I believe the finale is attaca from the second.

Thanks for this, Eric.

The three movements are indeed at YouTube and the links are:

1st.movement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ily3dEJ1EdM) - 2nd. movement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVyRUZof-To) - 3rd. movement (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jOyEkmadNo)

Tempi in the outer movements are a bit pedestrian and the string intonation is insecure here and there, but I'm not really carping. It's good to see it get an airing.

Thanks! I see from his YouTube channel that his orchestra also performed Chadwick's Sinfonietta recently. Ah, that hopeful feeling :)
