Title: More Braga Santos from Naxos!
Post by: M. Henriksen on Wednesday 14 December 2011, 12:17
This disc has completely slipped under my radar, until now..
Alvaro Cassuto and the RSNO gives us 5 orchestral works, of which 2 are premiere recordings.
Good news for all admirers of the Portuguese composer.

I bought this CD just over a week ago and have played it several times since. If you like Braga Santos's  first 4 symphonies, then you will like this disc too, especially my favourite work on the CD - the Alfama Ballet Suite : lovely melodies, very lively dance rhythms. The Overture which opens the CD is also a delightful work.

Cheers

Listening to this disc as I write ;D

How wonderful to hear again that distinctive and gorgeous Braga Santos sound, those broad, swinging melodies, the rich orchestration, the glorious colour ;D

What a fabulous composer Braga Santos was and how unbelieveably sad that the concert going public outside Portugal(if there ???) are not given the opportunity to hear the music :(
