A fine disc for those who love romantic piano music. Almost half of the only 52:48 minutes lasting CD is for the short piano sonatas 2 & 3, also available from the virtuoso pianist Adrian Ruiz. But the other short pieces are new to me and are well worth listening, subtly played by Alexandra Oehler.
New to me is the name Ghasèles (nos. 1 & 2 from Trois Ghasèles, op. 54, and opp. 81 & 130 also both feature a Ghasel). Is it a sort of Arab poetry form, a rhyme scheme? Has anybody ever heard or seen a Ghasel from another (romantic) composer?
This CD has now been listed by Records International (http://www.recordsinternational.com/cd.php?cd=06N045). The Ghazal is indeed a Persian literary genre.
Bantock set some Ghasals by Hafiz.
