Title: Weinberg Chamber Works for Winds from cpo
Post by: eschiss1 on Sunday 15 April 2012, 04:36
From JPC's cpo page, expected next month, a CD with Weinberg's bassoon solo sonata op.133, clarinet sonata op.28, trio for flute, viola and harp op.127, and 12 miniatures op.29 for flute and piano. I hadn't even heard of some of these works, I think, though the clarinet sonata and flute trio have reached disc.

-Eric (listening to Natanael Berg's first symphony, cpo, on - well, classical TV actually.)

(for those as just came in, Weinberg = Moisei Vainberg (spelling used until recently, but now regarded as inauthentic) = Mieczysław Weinberg (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mieczys%C5%82aw_Weinberg) (1919-96), Polish-born composer who spent much of his working life in the Soviet Union for war-related reasons (see the article, or other websites, for an explanation)... quite good composer in my opinion though not -quite- ontopic for this site strictly speaking. (Though some of his works produce quite a strong emotional response in me indeed- e.g. the 4th piano sonata as played by Gilels - that's not sufficient :) )
