Is anyone else having a problem downloading from Mediafire today? When I click on a link it says "Preparing to Download" but nothing happens.
Ah, just missed your post as I was preparing a similar one ! Yes, same experience today; never had problems before, it's been terrific, so assumed it was probably just me !
Definitely not at my end. I have just downloaded the new Kadosa, the Cuclin and the Ivanovs files successfully :)
I've managed something with no problems here in Japan
No problem for me - I've just downloaded the Lemba PC.
Aha - mine seems to be back ! Problem(for now) solved...obviously localised; could that be GB, or part of ?
Oh well, hope it no longer matters.....there's a day's music to catch up on !
I had problems for about 2 1/2 hours and then it cleared up. After two hours I used a different computer and browser and was able to download using Google Chrome. Now I'm back to my main computer and all is well.
For few days I do not have access to "my files" section. Thet happened, I think, after I cleaned the history track in my browser. mediafire launches now with its main site asking me either to register or to login. The problem is that I don't remember my password. Asked for reminding it but no hint was sent to my e-mail address. OK, I can register anew but I will not have the list of my previous uploads
I rarely get through to the download process before having tried 7 (or up to 25) times.
Guess it´s normal and that it is due to Mediafire´s eagerness to show their commercials.
Hi guys,
Yes, I had the same problem: tried to upload a couple of files, went to bed and left the machine running. This morning it was still uploading (68Hrs to go, it said), so I stopped the proces and started the upload anew, this time single files. No problems.
A few days ago I did it the same way and that time nothing only one file was oploaded after a night's work.

This might me a good moment to mention that members don't have to use MediaFire for their uploads. It's entirely up to you which service you use, although obviously it has to be one which allows sharing of files (some which did don't now after the MegaUpload case). It's also much fairer on your fellow members if the service you chose doesn't bombard them with pop up ads, impose onerous delays before downloads and so on. On the whole we've found MediaFire user friendly and accessible but it's not the only such service out there.
Has any of you had virus/trojan warnings with mediafire recently?
I just tried to download sicmu's upload of the Tardos Symphony. Instead a window opened telling me that there were three infected files on my computer. I was asked to delete them but I did not click OK because this window made me feel uneasy: I use Kaspersky and have just checked my entire computer. Kaspersky found nothing. The window seemed to be a Windows dialogue but I think it was a fake. I would like to know if any of you has had such presumably faked Windows warnings. I was sceptical because I couldn't close this window unless closing all open Windows explorer windows.
Well, I tried a second time and there was no problem. Therefore I think that the problem has nothing to do with sicmu's upload.
Either my computer is infected or this was some nauseating kind of advertisement, trying by force to direct one to some commercial website?
Yes, BC, I had the same experience just yesterday. It looks quite "official" but is some kind of virus or trojan. I immediately ran McAfee's virus finder program (which took forever) and it found two files infected and then I ran Malwarebytes anti-malware program and it found one more. So far (fingers crossed) it has not popped up again.
There'a another one similar to that, looking very official that just keeps popping up every couple of minutes and wants you to run some program that costs $29.95 USD (I think that was the price). But there is no program - you just give them your money. This one is a real chore to get rid of so I hope that one never sneaks into your PC.
Regards, Jerry
Thanks, Jerry! So your computer was indeed infected by this? When this warning popped up, did you click OK? Where you directed to some other site? Was this perhaps the reason why your computer became infected? I did not want to click OK. Maybe that's why Kaspersky didn't find anything.
Anyway, good luck!
I am in no way against mediafire but that kind of advertising is a bit too much I think...
No, I learned long ago that you never go forward with anything you don't recognize. I just hit the "X" up in the corner. But it did pop up again a few minutes later. It in iself was an infection of sorts. If it doesn't show up again, I wouldnt worry about it. If it does, you might consider some other anti-virus checker.
Jerry
Just minutes ago I had this trojan pop up (on a different computer) as I was about to download the third movement of the Block Three Jewish Poems. I will run the Malware program and see if it picks up the same one as before. I expect it will.
Jerry
I have it almost once every day. It appears when I try to download the first or second file from mediafire. It doesn't appear afterwards.
First I have to click OK. I cannot close this window. When I click OK the next window will open, which 'informs' me that I have three viruses. I can close this window.
I don't think it's on my - or your - computer, Jerry. But I wonder if other members have had the same experience. It is quite a recent form of ad I think.
It doesn't pop up when I surf elsewhere. Quite disturbing, anyway. Should one inform mediafire of it?
I have come across this as well, usually about thirty or forty-five seconds into a download. The download then stops. I use a MAC and I simply "escape" from Safari, bypassing the need to click on the unwanted pop-up and start over. It does not return during the new session although I may see it during the next one; I just do the same thing.
I've been having problems opening the British and Irish Music archive accessing any of the pages and being unable to listen or download any items for a while. I keep getting oops we can't connect to mediafile, I used to have no problems and I'm starting to get rather annoyed.
Actually I can't access anything of mediafile this evening, clearly something's wrong with mediafile.
Hi suffolkcoastal, sorry that you're having (hopefully temporary) problems. I saw your post and have just done some test downloads out of several folders directly from the archive (without logging in to my mediafire account) and downloaded files without anything untoward occuring.
Please could other members try downloading in order to ascertain whether or not the issue is general or localised?
???
I am just downloading two Brian files from your archive, John, and it works fine.
I've just tried a few more times, most of the time mediafile won't load up and I get the it is taking too long message, or if it does upload the mediafile page contains no files. I'm even trying the various folders and getting the same result. The net speed is fine, (it did an 80 mins itunes album download in less than 30 seconds) and everything else, even the most detailed web page is quick to download. I'm currently at my partners (about 40 miles from London) the broadband is far superior down here to my home in Suffolk.
No problems for me either with MediafiRe (not MediafiLe).
Well I've given up as I've tried another 30 times, I can occasionally get in to the catalogue but the moment I press download I get the same old message that it can't connect. I just tried the Butting downloads with the same result. I've checked everything on my computer and am at a total loss. As its been like this now for two weeks, it looks as if I'm no longer going to be able to use this website to listen to all these rare works, which has greatly upset me. Is there any other way to listen and download the attached files without having to use this mediafile service?
You might try Google Chrome. If you don't like it you can remove it.
I'm using google chrome and have been for over a year. I don't think that is the problem and I've checked to see if any updates are due, but everything seems to be up to date.
If you' not using Firefox you might try that. Sometimes AOL does crappy stuff and I switch over to Firefox.
Jerry
Can you download this (lower right hand corner of web page)? By the way, I think this is an interesting work.

Mark,
I've not been able to download your last few very interesting German/Austrian uploads. My PC says there are "...too many re-directs"!. Others' posts to Mediafire work fine (as do your earlier ones). Have you changed anything?
Richard
Well I've tried it on firefox and though I can reach the download stage, nothing happens when I try and download, it just endlessly opens up a new window or times out after 10 seconds. So there is nothing more I can do, I've just tried through my partner's high powered laptop with the same result. There IS clearly a problem with mediafire.com in parts of the UK. I would strongly suggest that a different storage site is used for the UK. For the moment its looks like unsung composers is no longer of any help to me and this has sadly ruined my weekend as there are many works I wish to hear and many others I wish to upload for others to hear.
There is a problem with mediafire in at least two parts of the UK. I am wondering currently whether mediafire is being blocked by BT.
I can't even download my own files.
Tried:
switching off firewall temporarily
used Chrome, IE, Firefox, Opera
JDownloader tells me my plugins are out of date, but that's their generic excuse.
Error message:
"504 Gateway Time-out
The server didn't respond in time."
I have sent a ticket to mediafire and hope to get a reply tomorrow or Tuesday.
Is it really only suffolkcoastal and I who have this download problem in the UK?
You may be right about BT blocking mediafire. BT are I understand fairly aggressive about blocking sites, neither my partner or I use BT as an internet supplier, but as they 'own the lines' I suppose this still may have cause the loss of accessibility in parts of the UK.
Depending on mediafire's response, I'll contact BT.
Mediafire offers cloud storage for one's personal files - I would be able to send files there, but not retrieve them which does defeat the aim of the process.

Sorry Richard, I've not changed a thing. When you say that "your PC says there are '...too many re-directs'", which program is giving you this warning? Is it the MediaFire page, your web browser, your Windows or Mac operating system? At what stage does this message occur: as soon as you click on the link? Might it be because I now upload everything in one Zip file and your browser/operating system is trying to unpack the Zip file, or have you been able to download some of my earlier Zips?

Meanwhile, I've had confirmation from the US and Russia that mediafire is functioning perfectly there so it may well be just a UK problem where access to the server has a problem or is being blocked deliberately.
@MarkThomas - clicking on "download" tries to send the message to mediafire's servers, doesn't get through, and goes round in a loop.

It is clearly no immediate consolation whatsoever to those members affected, but here in Nottingham, via Virgin Media, there does not seem to be a problem downloading. This clearly suggests that the issue is one that can be addressed by approaching the service provider (if BT is indeed the culprit) and suggesting in the strongest possible terms that they investigate and resolve as a matter of urgency.
Mark,
I've re-checked and still have the same problem with both Google Chrome (my normal browser) and IE.
A moment ago, I successfully got the Mediafire download page for 3 very recent items under Austrian Composers:
1.Felix von Weingartner (1863 - 1942) - Die Dorfschule Oper in einem Akt nach dem altjapanischen Drama Terakoya op. 62
2.Sigmund von HAUSEGGER (1872-1948) - Symphonic Poem in three movements: Barbarossa (1898/99) et al
3. Franz SCHUBERT (1797-1828) - Symphony in D D.708a (1820/1 - completed by Brian Newbould).
However,, when I've tried to get the Mediafire download page with your ownmost recent posts (Franz Paul LACHNER , Wilhelm KIENZL and Mathilde KRALIK VON MEYRSWALDEN), I get firstly an 'uploading' status then, after perhaps 10-20 seconds, the following text:
"This web page has a redirect loop
The web page at http://199.91.153.99/dzidize3h3yg/q482zl77i24921c/Symphonic+Variations+on+the+Strassburglied.zip has resulted in too many redirects. Clearing your cookies for this site or allowing third-party cookies may fix the problem. If not, it is possibly a server configuration issue and not a problem with your computer.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this web page later.
Learn more about this problem.
Error 310 (net::ERR_TOO_MANY_REDIRECTS): There were too many redirects."
-----------------------
I'm not overly 'tecchie' so I'm not sure what else I can do. I've tried this several times , always with the same result.
Other downloads since your posts - e.g. Evgeny Stankovych (b. 1942) - Sinfonia Larga (Symphony No.1 for 15 strings) (1973) still let me get to the Mediafire download page.
My ISP is BT; my PC is VISTA; my brandy is handy!!
Best wishes
Richard
I'm getting the 'redirect loop' message too. I use Google Chrome...
I have absolutely no idea what the problem is but I do find that sometimes in the last couple of weeks I've had difficulty in accessing my own MediaFire account page and have to try several times before I can bring it up. Possibly that's a symptom of the same problem. I'll talk to MediaFire and see what they come up with.
Obviously I'm sorry that you're having this problem and I won't put up any more posts until we get it resolved.
Equally, it is absolutely no consolation to those members who are experiencing such horrendous problems but I have just downloaded six new files using Mediafire as normal without any dfficulty.
I am in Scotland and Virgin Media are my service providers. This does suggest that it is less a Mediafire issue than the Service Provider ???
Were I to be having the problems which others are facing I would be as annoyed and exasperated as they clearly are :( Please don't give up on us though....there MUST be a way out of this :o
I've contacted MediaFire now and we'll see what they come up with. As I have said on many previous instances, there is no obligation on us to use MediaFire and there are lots of other file sharing platforms out there. It's benefit is that it is user friendly and doesn't impose restrictions on downloading, particularly if you shell out for a professional account. If members upload to another service which doesn't restrict downloads in any way then that would be a perfectly acceptable alternative.
It seems to be a regional problem in the UK. I've been at my parents house and it is working ok. They use TalkTalk for both internet and telephone, so it looks as if the problem is regional/network provider.
Just to report: the problem seems to be pretty random, i.e. I can access some downloads at Mediafire, but not others. Curious...
I've just heard from mediafire:
"Your ISP is currently blocking file downloads on our site. We heard about this issue several days ago and responded appropriately, but were instructed that it may take some time for them to unblock us. At this point there is nothing more we can do, but you might be able to get them to hurry things up by contacting your ISP directly."
Ah, my leetle grey cells told me it was BeeTee. Miss Lemon, take a lettair. Dear BeeTee...
BT has been singularly arrogant and unhelpful.
1. I'm not allowed to complain even though I'm a BT customer - only mediafire can.
2. If mediafire contacted them last Friday, they wouldn't look at the problem until next Wednesday.
Welcome back to the 1970s.
Folks,
Downloads from Mediafire via BT seem to be working fine this morning. Able to download Mark's recent uploads 'instantly'.
Hope this means problem solved for others too!
Richard
BT has just rung me - yes, there is a problem affecting not just me, and they're sorry, it's going to take some time to sort out.
Having tried and failed only ten minutes ago with the chap from Delhi's assistance, I've just tried again and it is back to normal, unblocked.
Thank, Richard Moss, I was going to give up on it until I'd been out and had a cup of coffee.
MrdiaFire have confirmed to me too that the problem has been with BT (and also Virgin as far as uploads are concerned apparently). My isp is PlusNet which is owned by: guess who?
I was unable to get through to a complaints department at BT, and was told you need to write in. Would I like the address?
By the way, a number of BT operatives told me this morning, and I quote, "We do not block" before suggesting the problem was of my own making. I can only assume many others have contacted BT this morning and that the penny eventually dropped.
To celebrate, I will post Arthur Oldham's Psalms in Time of War - premiere performance - later today.
SNO Sir Alexander Gibson
... and I've just posted Kaminski's Dorische Musik, in the German Music Folder.
The problem has now disappeared...
