Catharinus Elling was first and foremost a composer of songs.
But he also composed in larger formats, an opera; The Cossacks, 2 symphonies and a violin concerto.
His music was clear-structured and harmonically uncomplicated, and folk music grew more and more important to Elling over the years.
Simax have released a splendid recording of Elling's two String Quartets and also a disc with some of his songs.
The Violin Concerto is coupled with the D major Quartet on an old NKF-CD.
