I'm sure some of the regulars here will know about this already, but I was here is news of a performance of Bliss' The Beatitudes in the venue for which it was originally written, coming up this September.
I do hope that Chandos are on hand to record it, either 'in situ' or in the studio around the same time.
Again, as some will know, a performance and recording had been scheduled for the late and great Richard Hickox to conduct, but sadly he did not live to see it through.
A chance now for us all to assess the piece!

Yes indeed :)
I had already drawn attention on here to this performance:

but you are quite right to remind us of it so much nearer the time :)
And I echo your hopes that it will be recorded by Chandos or some other enterprising company :)
Let's hope that a commercial recording of this splendid piece will result - no doubt many members (including myself) will take out an 'insurance policy' by preserving a performance that it almost certainly going to be broadcast.
;)
Let us all write to Chandos encouraging them to record it.

Enquiry duly posted on the Chandos forum.

I have tapes of Bliss conducting The Beatitudes (1964 Proms performance), The Golden Cantata (1966) and Mary of Magdala (1963) in tolerable condition, now transferred from tape to CD. If someone could point me to easy-to-follow instructions of how to upload CDs (not having done one before) I would be willing to have a try to share these performances.
Excellent - these would be well worth hearing. Rip the cds to your hard-drive (which will turn the recordings into mp3 or wma files), then sign-up for a free account to mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/ (http://www.mediafire.com/)) and follow the instructions for uploading and sharing. When you have an alpha-numerical share-key, copy and paste this with details of the performance into a post on the members-only British Music Downloads thread.
:)
Oh...yes please, indeed :) :)
If you find any difficulties just let us know and we will help ;D
I have downloaded my CD of The Beatitudes onto my hard drive. It is a 504MB file and with a free account mediafire says the limit is 200MB. Have I gone wrong?
Gosh, that's a whopper! What bit rate (kbps) is the file?
???
I've PMd you regarding a possible alternative method.
:)
If it's a wav file, that size makes sense for about 47 minutes or so.
