I fixed the dates at Wikipedia to fit those at fritzbrun.ch/e/werkverzeichnis.html (http://www.fritzbrun.ch/e/werkverzeichnis.html) .
Not sure if we're counting these in the Orchestral Music category (though they fit the pattern of works like Verheissung- maybe...)

1915: Auf meines Kindes Tod for voice and orchestra (Goethe)
1917: Die drei Zigeuner for voice and orchestra (Lenau)
" : Jugendgedenken for voice and orchestra (Keller)

The three works you list, Eric, were all arrangements by Brun of music written by Othmar Schoeck. "Verheissung" is an original composition.

My criteria exclude arrangements ;D

It sure has.  Most recent release in the series, I believe.

It's an old thread, Gareth. One of those catalogues that constantly need updating. Very annoying.

Unfortunate that it can't be updated, but I'd be upset if it and others didn't need updating once-a-while for new premiere recordings (apologies for the language joke, though at the same time I do mean that :) )

Sorry, we're not going to update these catalogues. It's so easy to check on availability elsewhere anyway.

no worries (well, I do worry about some of their other inaccuracies - of dates, e.g. -  when they're quoted in other places, but what-can-you-do. )

Hi everybody and a Happy New Year  ;)
There is a complete list of Brun's works on his homepage www.fritzbrun.ch (http://www.fritzbrun.ch) (with English version).
Just to tell you that my recording of Brun's complete works for piano and orchestra (on one over 70 minutes-CD) will be released by Guild in May 2014 and his 4th Symphony (coupled with Rhapsodie) in November 2014.
In March I will record the 2nd Symphony (coupled with Symphonic Prologue) and in autumn the 8th Symphony. For 2015 there just one CD left to complete my "complete" series, i.e. Brun's Cello Concerto, coupled with two works for chorus and orchestra). Perhaps the Schoeck orchestrations will be recorded too.
The concertante works have been and will be recorded with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra; the Symphonies, as usual, with the Moscow Symphony. Pianist Tomas Nemec, with whom I have recorded a Pilati CD (on Marco Polo/Naxos) and my own Concertino for Celesta and Strings (on Inedita), is absolutely sensational. I knew he would be the right man for this terribly difficult Piano Concerto. Our perfect mutual understanding will be heard in full on this recording. And no other pianist would have learned this work in such a short time and with such enthusiam. A big star would have needed years, or refused.
Anybody wanting a slideshow of our Piano Concerto's sessions in Bratislava (including a musical excerpt), can post here an e-mail request and I will post this video via wetransfer.com UNDER CONDITION IT WILL NOT BE PUBLISHED ON YOUTUBE!
Or to my e-mail address mentioned on www.adrianomusic.com (http://www.adrianomusic.com)
Of course, work on my video documentary on Brun is also in progress. It will be finished next year and also contain recording session's episodes from Moscow and Bratislava.
Of Piano Concerto and Variationen über ein eigenes Thema I have edited new and critical study scores for two pianos.
Brun's Piano Concerto will be a real discovery, gorgeous post-Romatnic music. For me it is the most beautiful Swiss Piano Concerto of the 20th century (perhaps alongside with Frank Martin's 2 Concertos). Raff's Piano Concerto gets the 19th century Palmaris!
Not to forget that composer Albert Moeschinger has also written 5 very interesting piano concertos.
Regards from Zürich

A reminder: on Fritz Brun, there is an article on my homepage:
http://www.adrianomusic.com/resources/Fritz-Brun-Project.pdf
In this case, one could listen the Symphonies chronologically - they get increasingly more difficult - and become more conciliatory towards the end. The two Concertos are rather late Romantic.
This autumn I have finished recording all of Brun's orchestral music works, including the three orchestrated Schoeck songs.
And here three promotional videos (in Geman, but there is more music than text):

I downloaded the first symphony this morning and will likely spend much of the day listening to it as I'm quite pleased with it. Amazon for some reason doesn't have the cover art and the liner notes included in the price.  Is there a place I can go to that will have this information available? Guild doesn't seem to have it either. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks mjk to the link to the classical shop. I'm still somewhat old school as I like to make a CD, a jewel case with artwork, and then store it that way. As I suspected there were superb liner notes from Adriano that enhances the listening experience further.

Hi everybody :-)

Just to tell you that my CD with Brun's Eight Symphony is on the way of being released:
http://www.guildmusic.com/shop/wbc.php?sid=555070ddcf5&tpl=produktdetail.html&pid=17127&rid=261&recno=2 (http://www.guildmusic.com/shop/wbc.php?sid=555070ddcf5&tpl=produktdetail.html&pid=17127&rid=261&recno=2)

A promotional video can be seen here:
https://vimeo.com/143711085 (https://vimeo.com/143711085)

This is a "more accessible Symphony" and quite an exciting and tempered affair, greatly orchestrated.

Incidentally, since my booklet notes are "too long", they will, in the future, cut inside photos and song texts with translations. The latter can be downloaded from Guild's homepage.
For this reason, I have set up a "director's cut" booklet version in PDF format. Anyone interested in this, can order it from me after giving me an e-mail address to where I can send this PDF by wetransfer.

Symphony No.8 (on Guild) arrived today from Switzerland and good stuff it is too. The most immediately obvious thing about it is that, although it remains a demanding listen (like most of Brun's music), the idiom is less dense and 'knotty', as befits a work in the sunny key of A major. I have the suspicion that this expansive 54-minute piece may turn out to be be the composer's masterpiece in the form. It certainly proves that the great symphonic tradition was not played out in 1942!

I am profoundly grateful to Adriano for his gritty determination to put Brun on the musical map and for his expertise in recording this complex music in such excellent performances. This time it is the players of the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra whom we must praise for their stalwart work. An important release!

Oh, infinite thanks, Alan  :-*
You received the CD even before I got this honour, I am still awaiting my copies...
Brun's Eight Symphony is indeed a masterpiece, I consider it one of the most impetuous and important Swiss Symphonies of the 20th century, besides Honegger's Second and Third.
The Bratislava Orchestra adored the piece, although it is difficult to play...

It's a magnificent release. The Schoeck songs orchestrated by Brun are a lovely bonus too - and absolutely wonderfully sung by the Hungarian mezzo Bernadett Fodor. She's one to watch. Thank you again, Adriano.

Somewhat belated I can add my deepest appreciation for how Adriano (one of the more unduly unknown conductors of our time!) has brought to life the orchestral works of Fritz Brun, surely one of the most unduly unknown composers of the 20th century! A sad fact is, now that commerce is increasingly invading the Arts, the chances of such major uncoveries (I skip the term 'discovery'!) are decreasing rapidly. Moreover, how many conductors or musicians can or want to invest time and energy in music which takes time to do them right? Happily, there are still some labels that bring unknown music because they seem to feel they have an obligation to do so (I might point to a name somewhat associated to Brun: Jan van Gilse, of whom CPO now issued various CDs, including all his symphonies; bravo!). One must help these by buying the CDs rather than downloading some rip(off) thereof!

My favorite Brun symphony remains the 5th, but then I am a sucker for dark and troubled music....

All best,
Gijs

Perhaps "finds" would be a better word. But we know what you mean...
