John Carlovitz Ames born 8 January 1860 Westbury-on-Trym, nr, Bristol - died 21 July 1924 Torquay, Devon
The eldest of five children 1. Educated at Edinburgh University, then Stuttgart Conservatory under Immanuel Faisst and later in Dresden 2 under Frank Wullner. Ames spent most of his professional life between conducting, composing and as a concert pianist.
His sister Mary composed a few pieces - see below.

Mary Milford Ames 20.6.1867-1945 sister of above.
Her first music lessons were with her brother and then at The Royal Academy of Music under Frederick Corder. She later went to study in Berlin.

He met and married his wife Sophie Hecht in Dresden in 1886
At his death, his estate was valued at £ 12,943 which was quite substantial for the time.
The "souvenir" for piano by him you mention (ah, missed that - edit! :) ), transcribed for organ by C.W. Pearce, has been scanned by Sibley.
There are at least four more piano pieces, his opus 2: Idylle, In der Dämmerung, Sehnsucht and Gruss. (published by Klemm in 1885.)
