Well, tomorrow's the (first) day (in the Northern Hemisphere). I intend to put Naujalis' Ruduo on, for instance... anyhow, I agree.

Would highly recommend my new discovery then as well, and an Unknown - Alfreds Kalnins "Autumn"...

Assuming that the two minute long recording available on YouTube is the whole work then Kalnins "Autumn" is indeed a lovely little miniature. But to return to Trew, his entry in Brown & Stratton's British Musical Biography of 1897 reads:

Trew, Charles A., pianist and composer of present time. Sometime organist of St. Paul's, Rusthall, Tunbridge Wells. Resident in London, where for some time he has given annual concerts. His compositions embrace a trio for pf. and strings. Musical Artists' Society, 1884 ; Sonata in D minor; Romance ; and other pieces for violin and pf. Author of Harmony Lessons, adapted for classes, London, Schott, 1888. His wife, Susan Trew, is also a pianist and composer, and among her works a sonata for violin and pf. was produced by the Musical Artists' Society, June 26, 1893.

I believe Trew was also Sorabji's teacher during 1913-14.

Was he related to Arthur Charles Trew (1881-1957, also a musician it seems)?

I don't know is the answer but I will try and see who Arthur Charles' father was.  There is very little I have been able to find about C.A.Trew.

If anyone is remotely interested, I posted a scan of the Concertstuck on Pianophilia some time ago and it is still available for download.

I'm not, because the site passes way beyond the domain of reason in requiring registration and login just to access scans of public-domain material. But that is a matter for another topic.

Oh yes; I remember it being one of the first pieces I heard on NPR's "Music Through The Night" - back in 1987. The late Arthur Hoehn was great when it came to programming little known repertoire...

British Library lists several song cycles and songs in their catalog by Trew in addition to Devon Ditties, I think.

In reply to eschiss 1, Arthur Charles Trew was the son of Charles Abraham and his wife Susan. Charles Arthur was also born in the Marylebone district of London.

Thanks! Composer families (and other connections) tend to interest me (not excessively - I don't take a simplistic view of genetics etc. by any means, though I'm more interested in the teaching than the biological, so that ... anyway, I do ramble on)...
