Does anyone know, is there a recording of Johann Strauss Jr.'s only opera "Ritter Pasman"? Or any rumours about performances? I have heard only Csardas from it, but I would be intersted to hear the whole opera.
Although not by an Unsung Composer, this opera is most certainly, and literally, Unsung!
I don't believe it has ever been commercially recorded, but there is a reference to a recording at:
http://www.operadis-opera-discography.org.uk/CLIIRITT.HTM
.....which was subsequently broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
You can download the complete operetta from the Todopera website.
There's four, I believe, dance excerpts in the Marco Polo series.
The ballet from the opera has been recorded a few times - most famously by the NatPO, cond. Bonynge, in a Decca 2-LP box with Aschenbrodl - one of my favourites! ;)
Forgot about that. I love that CD set (which also includes the ballet The Beautiful Danube, one of those "Ballet After"s I for one just adore, arranged by someone named Desormiere).
So I dunno if this is the same recording mentioned earlier in this thread, but a 1975 live performance has finally been released on CD:

The Operetta Research Center has a long article (http://operetta-research-center.org/johann-strauss-ritter-pasman-live-recording-vienna-1975/) about this recording.
Also for some reason the digital platforms title the release "excerpts" but I see no indication it's cut or whatever, in that article or in the artwork.
Thank you for that link, Wheesht . It's an era in which I'm particularly interested, and I found lots of fascinating articles. :)
